Here are the latest charts and statistics for the Commitment of Traders (COT) data published by the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
The latest COT data is updated through Tuesday July 21st and shows a quick view of how large traders (for-profit speculators and commercial entities) were positioned in the futures markets.
The COT energy market speculator bets were overall higher this week as four out of the six energy markets we cover had higher positioning while the other two markets had lower speculator contracts.
Leading the gains for the energy markets was WTI Crude (19,006 contracts) with Natural Gas (7,474 contracts), Gasoline (3,009 contracts) and Heating Oil (1,238 contracts) also having positive weeks.

Leading the markets with declines in speculator bets for the week was Brent Oil (-5,306 contracts) with Bloomberg Index (-117 contracts) also seeing lower bets on the week.
The Energy markets this week saw mostly higher prices throughout as the Iran war has come back in full force and sparked higher prices, especially amongst the Oil markets. Brent Oil was the highest Energy market price performer this week with an 11.10% increase.
WTI Crude Oil followed that with an almost 10% increase as it rose by 9.27%. Heating Oil was higher by 6.75%, and the Bloomberg Commodity Index rose by 3.04%. Gasoline rounded out the gainers with a 2.25% rise.
On the downside was Natural Gas, which dipped by -1.54%.

COT Strength Scores (a normalized measure of Speculator positions over a 3-Year range, from 0 to 100 where above 80 is Extreme-Bullish and below 20 is Extreme-Bearish) showed that Heating Oil (56.2 percent), Gasoline (54.5 percent) and the Bloomberg Commodity Index (53.0 percent) lead the energy markets this week.
On the downside, WTI Crude (13.5 percent) comes in at the lowest strength level currently and is in Extreme-Bearish territory (below 20 percent). The next lowest strength score was Natural Gas (22.7 percent) followed by Brent Oil (37.1 percent).

COT Strength Score Trends (or move index, calculates the 6-week changes in strength scores) showed that Bloomberg Index (44.3 percent) and Gasoline (15.4 percent) lead the past six weeks trends for the energy markets.
Brent Oil (-28.1 percent) leads the downside trend scores currently with WTI Crude (-15.7 percent) as the next market with lower trend scores.
