House Democrats offer deal to end budget stalemate and end government shutdown.

In an exclusive sit-down interview with the Associated Press, President Barack Obama said there are enough members of the House to vote to reopen the government and to avoid the first ever default, insisting the only obstacle is Speaker Boehner. (Oct. 5)

Members of the American Legion held a news conference near the World War II Memorial in Washington Friday. Members say they want the memorial to stay open for visitors despite the government shutdown. (Oct. 4)

House Speaker John Boehner is demanding anew that the White House and Democrats negotiate about ways to re-open the government and address criticisms of the president’s health care law. Boehner told reporters Friday, ‘This isn’t some damn game.’ (Oct. 4)
