IBM and HP Lost Server Market Share to Dell

IBM and HP both lost market share in server sales to Dell in the 4th quarter of 2011. The flood in Thailand interrupted their hard-disk drive supplies manufactured in that region. Overall, the server revenues for IBM and HP dropped 10% and 16% YoY respectively in the fourth quarter. Dell picked up their lost customers and gained 7.3% in revenue in the time frame.IBM also let go more than 1,000 workers in the US and Canada this week according to an employee advocacy group affiliated with Communications Workers of America. On its Dec 31 Securities and Exchange Commission filing, IBM reported to have 426,000 workers.
