Chinese Trade Balance Preview

January 12, 2016

We have a key data print coming out overnight from China. They are set to announce their trade balance figures for December at 02:00 GMT on Wednesday. As market participants look for a narrowing trade surplus in the region, we’ll see if that will spark some increased volatility overnight. China’s data prints are increasingly viewed under the microscope as the region has sent a ripple effect throughout European and US markets in the first trading sessions of 2016.

The trade balance is forecasted to shrink to $53 billion, with imports coming in at -11.5% and exports right around -8.0%. Stay tuned tomorrow, as a bad result could spell more losses for markets.
