We saw speculators take their foot off the gas of buying the US dollar and WTI crude oil futures (down 2 weeks) while bets on the major commodities (gold, silver, copper) were on the rise last week. Both the S&P500 futures and the 10-year note continued to be out of favor of the large speculators.
Currency Speculators edged US Dollar bullish positions lower last week
US Dollar net speculator positions leveled at $24.95 billion last week
The latest data for the weekly Commitment of Traders (COT) report, released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Friday, showed that large traders and currency speculators slightly decreased their bullish bets for the US dollar last week following two weeks of gains.
The major currencies that improved against the US dollar last week were the just the Japanese yen (6,925 weekly change in contracts) and the euro (4,233 contracts).

WTI Crude Oil Speculators pulled back on bullish net positions for 2nd week
The non-commercial contracts of WTI crude futures totaled a net position of 433562 contracts, according to data from last week. This was a change of -6512 contracts from the previous weekly total.
Gold Speculators raised net bullish positions for first time in 9 weeks
The large speculator contracts of gold futures advanced to a total net position of 109482 contracts. This was a weekly change of 12932 contracts from the previous week.
10 Year Treasury Note Speculators increased bearish net positions for 3rd week
The large speculator contracts of 10-year treasury note futures totaled a net position of -394689 contracts. This was a weekly change of -49758 contracts from the previous week.
S&P500 Speculators continued to trim bullish net positions last week
The large speculator contracts of S&P 500 futures totaled a net position of 2140 contracts. This was a change of -2488 contracts from the reported data of the previous week.
Silver Speculators increased bullish net positions for second week
The non-commercial contracts of silver futures totaled a net position of 64601 contracts, according to data from last week. This was a weekly change of 3310 contracts from the previous totals.
Copper Speculator bullish positions rebound after 3 down weeks
The large speculator contracts of copper futures totaled a net position of 47703 contracts. This was a weekly change of 3219 contracts from the data of the previous week.
