Most famous FX investors of all time

It may not be the glitziest and most glamorous clan of all, but this bunch has made it big trading currencies and if you want to achieve success at trading Forex, then there’s a thing or two to be learnt from these guys.

John R Taylor. John started his career as a political analyst for Chemical bank after graduating from Princeton. Soon after he became the forex analyst for the bank, allowing him to build a network in the forex world. He is one of the pioneers of computer-aided forex trading systems and the owner of successful currency managing firm FX Concepts.

Bruce Kovner. Once a cab driver, Harvard-educated Kovner found his calling in the commodities and currency markets becoming one of the most influential traders in the interbank currency market. Kovner retired in 2001 from running his macro firm Caxton Associates, but remains an active investor.

Jimmy Rogers. Legendary businessman, investor, author and financial commentator, Rogers’ rise to fame came about in the 1970’s when he founded, together with George Soros, the Quantum Fund, one of the best performing hedge funds of all time. Although Rogers is better known for his investments in commodities, he has been a key player in a number of high-profile forex trades.

Bill Lipschutz. After having learned a lesson on risk management the hard way, Lipschutz joined the foreign exchange division at Solomon Brothers just as the forex market was beginning to become popular and soon became the firm’s principal trader. In 1995, Lipschutz co-founded Hathersage Capital Management and has become a well-known forex trader, having made over $300 million in a single year in forex trading alone.

Stanley Druckenmiller. After having held several jobs in the financial sector, Druckenmiller rose to stardom while managing money for George Soros as the lead portfolio manager for the Quantum Fund, when he was a key player in the deal that broke the Bank of England, which resulted in a $1 billion profit.

Andrew Krieger. A graduate of the Wharton Business School of UPenn, Krieger was a successful trader from the start of his carrier. His rise to fame was brought about when he took a short position against the New Zealand Kiwi following the Black Monday crash of 1987, which exceeded the country’s money supply in circulation. The trade netted Banker’s Trust, his employer, $300 million.

George Soros. The man who broker the Bank of England is a forex legend in the flesh. He rose to fame when he made $1billion in one day from a single transaction after short selling $10billion in British pound sterling. Although this was the highlight of Soros’ financial career, the man has broken several records in the financial sector, earning him the title of one of the top traders of all time. His firm, Soros Fund Management has generated over $40 billion in profits since it was established in 1970.
