CFTC Futures data shows speculators raised bullish bets
10 Year Treasury Note Non-Commercial Positions:
Large 10-year treasury note futures traders and speculators added to their overall bullish positions last week for the fifth out of the last six weeks, according to the latest Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Friday.
The non-commercial futures contracts of the 10-year treasury notes, primarily traded by large speculators and hedge funds, totaled a net position of +96,109 contracts in the data reported for July 5th. This was a weekly change of +12,185 net contracts from the previous week’s total of 83,924 net contracts that was recorded on June 28th.
For the week, the overall standing long positions in 10-year futures fell by -14,371 contracts but managed to be less of a decline than what happened in the short positions that dropped by -26,556 contracts to register the overall net change of +12,185 contracts for the week.

10 Year US Treasury Note Commercial Positions:
In the commercial positions for the 10-year note on the week, the commercials (hedgers or traders engaged in buying and selling for business purposes) added to their overall bearish positions to a total net position of -40,860 contracts through July 5th. This is a weekly change of -7,251 contracts from the total net position of -33,609 contracts on June 28th.
IEF 7-10 Year Bond ETF:
Over the same weekly reporting time-frame, from Tuesday June 28th to Tuesday July 5th, the 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF edged up from 113.16 to 113.71, according to ETF data for the iShares 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF (IEF).
