CFTC Futures data shows speculators went long on 10-Year Notes
10 Year Treasury Note Non-Commercial Positions:
Large 10-year treasury note futures traders and speculators sharply boosted their bets in favor 10-year notes last week and turned the net speculator position into positive territory for the first time since March, according to the latest Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Friday.
The non-commercial futures contracts of the 10-year treasury notes, primarily traded by large speculators and hedge funds, totaled a net position of +15,195 contracts in the data reported for June 7th. This was a weekly change of +156,157 net contracts from the previous week’s total of -140,962 net contracts that was recorded on May 31st.
For the week, the overall standing long positions in 10-year futures jumped by 106,366 contracts and combined with a decline in the short positions by -49,791 contracts to register the overall net change of +156,157 contracts for the week.

The net speculator position is now in positive territory for the first time since March 22nd when total positions equaled +50,105 contracts.
10 Year US Treasury Note Commercial Positions:
In the commercial positions for the 10-year note on the week, the commercials (hedgers or traders engaged in buying and selling for business purposes) deeply cut their overall bullish positions to a total net position of +68,509 contracts through June 7th. This is a weekly change of -145,087 contracts from the total net position of +213,596 contracts on May 31st.
IEF 7-10 Year Bond ETF:
Over the same weekly reporting time-frame, from Tuesday May 31st to Tuesday June 7th, the 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF increased from 109.73 to 110.76, according to ETF data for the iShares 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF (IEF).
