Gold Speculators sharply raised bullish net positions last week

Gold speculative positions rose up last week to +117,159 contracts

GOLD Non-Commercial Positions:

Gold speculator and large futures traders sharply raised their gold bullish positions higher last week for a fourth straight week, according to the latest Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Friday.

The non-commercial futures contracts of Comex gold futures, traded by large speculators and hedge funds, totaled a net position of +117,159 contracts in the data reported through October 13th. This was a weekly change of +30,340 contracts from the previous weekâs total of +86,819 net contracts that was registered on October 6th.

The tick up in the weekly net speculator positions (+30,340 net contracts) was due to a gain in the weekly bullish positions by +12,299 contracts that combined with a drop in the weekly bearish positions by -18,041 contracts.

Gold Commercial Positions:

In the commercial positions for gold on the week, the commercials (hedgers or traders engaged in buying and selling for business purposes) cut their overall bearish positions for a fourth week to a net total position of -118,494 contracts through October 13th. This was a weekly change of -30,025 contracts from the total net position of -88,469 contracts on October 6th.

GLD ETF:

Over the weekly reporting time-frame, from Tuesday October 6th to Tuesday October 13th, the price of the (GLD) Gold ETF , which tracks the gold spot price, rose from approximately $109.86 to $111.86, according to ETF price data of the SPDR Gold Trust ETF (GLD).
