CFTC Monday Holiday Release due to Thanksgiving

GOLD: Large traders and futures market speculators slightly decreased their net gold bullish bets last week after a strong increase the previous week as gold net positions have fallen four out of the last five weeks, according to the latest Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Monday due to US Thanksgiving holiday last week.

The non-commercial futures contracts of Comex gold futures, traded by large speculators and hedge funds, totaled a net position of +76,207 contracts in the data reported through November 25th. This was a weekly change of -5,215 contracts from the previous week’s total of +81,422 net contracts that was registered on November 18th.

The decline in the net speculator positions (-5,215 contracts) for the latest week was due to a fall in the bullish positions by -20,561 contracts which more than offset the weekly bearish positions that also saw a decline by -15,346 contracts.

Over the weekly reporting time-frame, from Tuesday November 18th to Tuesday November 25th, the gold price traded virtually unchanged from approximately $1,197.10 to $1,197.80 per ounce, according to gold futures price data from investing.com.

The CFTC categorizes trader positions according to commercial hedgers (traders who use futures contracts for hedging as part of the business), non-commercials (large traders who speculate to realize trading profits) and nonreportable traders (usually small traders/speculators).
